USL League Two – Mid-Atlantic Division | June 20
John Bartram High School | Philadelphia, PA
Pre-Match
Philadelphia Lone Stars return home for the first time since June 6th after spending their previous three matches on the road. That stretch proved challenging, with defeats coming against LVU Rush, Real Central New Jersey, and West Chester United. Back on home soil, the Lone Stars will be looking to bounce back into winning ways while also seeking revenge against the Delaware Ospreys, who defeated them 4–2 in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
The Ospreys enter the match with two wins to their name in the 2026 campaign. Their first victory came in May with a home-opening win over the Lone Stars, followed by a 3–1 victory against Eagle FC earlier this month. Despite those results, Delaware has struggled for consistency and will be eager to finish the season on a positive note.
Both sides come into this matchup looking to halt recent losing streaks, with each team having dropped their last three matches.
First Half
Philadelphia Lone Stars started the match on the front foot, winning the opening corner of the contest and opting for a quick, short delivery. However, it was Delaware Ospreys who registered the first shot on target, stemming from a long throw-in that was calmly handled by the Lone Star’s goalkeeper.
Delaware continued to settle into the match, forcing the Lone Star’s goalkeeper into action with a solid save. As half progressed, the Ospreys began to control possession while the Lone Stars looked to counter, with the Delaware backline doing well to keep attackers contained.
The opening goal came via a long ball from a Robert Myrick that found Caden Stafford. Stafford shrugged off his defender, sold the goalkeeper with a clever fake shot, and calmly slotted the ball into the net to give Delaware the lead in the 24th minute.
Another Lone Star’s corner came and went without danger, while the Ospreys continued to apply pressure. A strong shift from Ospreys left-back, Becket Field against Lone Stars Mohamed Bility highlighted Delaware’s growing confidence.
Delaware doubled their advantage when a long ball from Robert Myrick bounced past a disorganized Lone Stars backline. Jaden Hilliard ran onto it, took the ball past the goalkeeper, and finished clinically to make it 2–0 heading toward halftime.
Second Half
The Ospreys picked up right where they left off. Ospreys Aiden Gonzalez delivered a dangerous cross that rolled across the six-yard box, unlucky not to result in an assist.
Delaware’s third goal came 5 minutes into the second half. A cross from Aiden Gonzalez found Adrian Buri in the box, whose initial effort was cleared off the goal line by a Lone Stars defender. The ball fell kindly to Jake Ross, who tapped home the rebound to extend the lead.
Delaware nearly added a fourth shortly after, continuing to press high and dominate the match. The Lone Stars managed their best corner of the game, but the resulting effort sailed over the crossbar.
The Ospreys’ fourth goal arrived in the 75th minute as Aiden Gonzalez twisted and turned his defender before calmly slotting his finish into the far post. Just minutes after that, Delaware struck again. A cross from Murray Peart was cleverly dummied by Bryce Flowers, allowing Gonzalez to step onto the ball and fire home for his second of the match.
Delaware came close to grabbing a sixth, only for a Lone Stars defender to clear the ball off the line. Late in the match, the Ospreys goalkeeper was called into action after a very quiet evening.
Final
A dominant performance from the Delaware Ospreys saw them comfortably see out the match, showcasing both their attacking quality and defensive organization from start to finish. Delaware will look to build on this result as they search for consistency entering the final stretch of the season, with five matches remaining on their schedule.
For the Philadelphia Lone Stars, this result further highlights what has been a season of two distinct halves. After an impressive start that saw the Lone Stars score 21 goals across their opening seven matches while playing entertaining, free-flowing football, their recent form has dipped significantly. With just two goals scored in their last four matches, Philadelphia will need their attack to rediscover its early-season spark as they head into their final three games.
With both sides appearing unlikely to factor into the playoff picture, the remainder of the season shapes up as a battle for pride and momentum. The Ospreys return home to host Reading United AC on June 23rd, while the Lone Stars face a tough test as they welcome league leaders Ocean City Nor’easters on June 28th.
