USL League Two Match Recap | May 9
The USL League Two season officially kicked off as Philadelphia Lone Stars opened their home campaign against West Chester United SC on Friday afternoon.
Pre-Match
West Chester United entered the match as clear favorites after an impressive run of success, including winning the Mid-Atlantic Conference in 2025 and capturing two national titles in 2026 (the National Amateur Cup and APSL National League Championship). For Philadelphia Lone Stars, this match marked their return to USL League Two competitive action for the first time since the conclusion of the 2024 season.
First Half
Both sides started the match with high intensity. West Chester United controlled much of the early possession and set the tempo, while Philadelphia looked dangerous on the counterattack, using the pace and space provided by their wingers.
Philadelphia nearly struck first when striker Jariel Arthur was played through on goal. With the West Chester goalkeeper rushing off his line, Arthur attempted a bold effort from nearly 30 yards out, but his shot drifted just wide of the target.
West Chester United eventually broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute. Ayoub Mouhou worked the ball down the left flank before delivering a pinpoint cross into the box, where Tanner Brentlinger calmly slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner to give the visitors a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Second Half
Philadelphia Lone Stars came out strong after the break, stretching the field and forcing repeated one-on-one situations against the West Chester back line. Their pressure paid off in the 53rd minute when they earned a free kick from roughly 30 yards out. Amadou Kamagate stepped up and delivered a picture-perfect strike, firing the ball home into the top right corner to equalize at 1–1.
Momentum stayed firmly with the home side. Just seven minutes later, Philadelphia took the lead when Jariel Arthur sent a cross to the back post, where Mohamed Bility finished to make it 2–1.
Amadou Kamagate capped off a standout performance with his second goal of the match, as Mohamed Bility drove at the West Chester defense before slipping a perfectly weighted through ball into Kamagate’s path. The midfielder made no mistake, powering his shot into the top-left corner to extend the lead to 3–1.
Full-Time
Despite late pressure from West Chester United, the Philadelphia Lone Stars held firm defensively and secured all three points in their home opener with an impressive 3–1 victory.
West Chester United will look to rebound quickly as they prepare to face LVU Rush on May 12. Philadelphia Lone Stars return to home next Saturday, May 16, when they host USL League Two newcomers Eagle FC.
