The Delmarva Thunder hosted Baltimore City FC in a highly anticipated Mid-Atlantic APSL Spring Season matchup, with both sides entering the contest undefeated.
Baltimore City FC came out of the gates with intent, applying sustained pressure on the Thunder back line throughout the opening 10 minutes. Their breakthrough arrived in the 15th minute when Jordan Wix Rauch met a driven cross and finished first time to give the visitors the lead. Just four minutes later, Rauch struck again, calmly slotting home a pull-back from inside the six-yard box to make it 2–0 in the 19th minute.
The match took a dramatic turn midway through the first half. In the 23rd minute, Baltimore City’s #7 was shown a yellow card after fouling a Thunder attacker who had dribbled past him. Just three minutes later, the same player picked up his second yellow following a mistimed aerial challenge, reducing Baltimore City FC to ten men for the remaining 64 minutes.
Despite being down a man, Baltimore City FC continued to control the match. In the 44th minute, #2 collected the ball just shy of midfield, drove past multiple Thunder defenders, and finished confidently into the far post with a left-footed strike to extend the lead to 3–0. Deep into first-half stoppage time, in the 46th minute, #17 pounced on a rebound from a deflected shot near the top of the penalty area and tucked it away at the near post, sending Baltimore into the break with a commanding 4–0 advantage.
Entering the second half, Baltimore City FC showed no signs of easing off as they pushed to secure all three points after a dominant opening 45 minutes. Despite enjoying a numerical advantage for most of the match, Delmarva Thunder struggled to find rhythm or sustained possession. Their best opportunities came from set pieces, particularly corner kicks, but none of their attempts managed to test the Baltimore City goalkeeper.
Baltimore City FC’s composure, efficiency in front of goal, and strong first-half performance proved decisive, as they maintained control throughout to hand Delmarva Thunder their first loss of the Spring season.
